Freight Forwarding Explained

Freight forwarding refers to the transportation of cargo by land, air, or sea. A freight forwarder, shipping agent, or clearing agent is someone or a company who organizes shipments to clients or other entities for the purposes of transporting goods from the producer or manufacturer to a final destination, consumer or end-user. Freight forwarder’s contract with many carriers or more than one carrier to safely move the goods.

There are three parties to a shipment: the sender, the recipient of the shipment, and the logistics company or third-party company involved in the transportation. The sender agrees to accept the delivery and pay for the shipment and the logistics company or carrier transports the goods to the recipient. The amount to be paid is known as “receivable charge” and is usually the responsibility of the sender.
